Blur or redact a screenshot online

Free, right here in your browser. Paste, drop or open an image, draw boxes over what nobody else should see, and download the result. The image is never uploaded.

Paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V, or drag an image here

PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF. Nothing is uploaded — the image stays on your device.

Your image never leaves this page. It is opened, edited and saved entirely in your browser — no upload, no server, no third-party scripts. This page even tells the browser to block all network connections from its scripts.

Use Solid for text. Pixelated or blurred text can sometimes be read back — tools exist that render candidate strings, pixelate them the same way and compare — and short values such as a six-digit code, a date or the last digits of a card are the easiest to recover. Pixelate and Blur are fine for faces, photos or background detail. Solid replaces the area with one flat colour, and that leaves nothing to reconstruct. Why, in detail.

How to hide part of a screenshot

  1. Bring the image in. Paste it with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac), drag the file onto the box above, or choose it from your device.
  2. Pick a style. Solid for anything that is text: names, e-mail addresses, account numbers, tokens. Pixelate or Blur for faces and photos.
  3. Drag over each area to hide. Click a box to change its style or remove it. Undo steps back one change at a time.
  4. Download the PNG or copy it — then open the file you are about to send and look at it once more. Browser tabs, notifications and window titles leak more often than the area you were focused on.

What the downloaded file contains: a brand-new, flat PNG with the boxes painted into its pixels. It has no layers and no copy of what was underneath, and none of the original file's metadata, such as the location data in a photo taken on a phone.

Questions

Is my screenshot uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is opened and edited by code running inside this page, and the finished PNG is produced in your browser. The page contains no upload code, and it tells the browser to block every network connection its scripts might try to make.

Which style should I use to hide text?

Solid. Pixelated or blurred text can sometimes be reconstructed, especially short values such as a code, a date or the last digits of a card. Solid fills the box with one flat colour, so nothing of the original is left in it.

Can someone remove the boxes from the downloaded image?

No. The boxes are painted into the pixels of a new PNG. There are no layers, and the original pixels underneath are not stored in the file. The original screenshot itself still exists wherever it came from, so share the new file, not the original.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Tap Choose an image, draw the boxes with your finger and tap Download PNG. Copying an image to the clipboard depends on the browser; if it is not supported, use Download.

Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of images.

On Windows, do it as you capture

If you hide the same things in screenshots every week, a web page is the slow way round. Screen Slinger, our screenshot tool for Windows 10 and 11, does it where you capture:

  • Print Screen to capture, then hide areas with the same three styles — solid fill, smooth blur or pixelated mosaic. In the image you export or copy, they replace the pixels themselves.
  • One click finds e-mail addresses, phone numbers and long digit sequences in the capture, using the text recognition built into Windows, and covers them all with solid fill. It is a helper, not a guarantee, so you still check the result.
  • Hide-templates remember the regions you hid on a screen and apply them again to the next capture of that screen, so for a screen you capture every day the hiding is done the moment you press Print Screen and pick the area.

It runs on your computer and keeps your screenshots there.
